Claims

Moving can be a daunting experience. You have so many things to worry about, at the top of which would be, "Will my stuff get to my new place safely?". Sourcing your moving needs to a professional moving company should eliminate this concern. You trust that professional movers will be able to take care of all your stuff and have it delivered safely.

As professional movers, we are trained and skilled in the process of moving, but the one thing we cannot guarantee is that accidents won't happen. Whether it's a slip of the foot, passing through a bumpy road, or wiggling through tight corners, sometimes accidents do happen. We acknowledge this and have taken the necessary steps to ensure that you are covered regardless.

At Last Stop Moving, we're committed to making your move as worry-free as possible, even when bumps (literally) arise. That's why we've put together this handy guide to claiming damages for damaged or lost items, ensuring your peace of mind in the process.

All Professional Moving Companies in Edmonton have a process that facilitates how to file a claim. As the client, your first consideration would be to clearly understand what coverage your movers offer. For you to file a claim for damaged or lost items on a move, ensure that you use a Licensed and Insured Moving Company. So what kind of coverage do moving companies in Edmonton offer?

1

Full value protection – this type of coverage is offered by companies willing to cover the entire cost for damaged or lost items. This means that if it is a lost appliance, your movers will replace it with a similar model. If your item is damaged, then your movers will cover the entire repair costs associated. This type of protection is rare, and often companies that offer this type of coverage charge significantly higher rates.

2

Released value protection – most moving companies go for this type of coverage. This coverage limits the cost that your movers can incur when covering damages. At Last Stop Moving, like many other Edmonton Movers, we offer coverage of up to $0.60/pound/article. This translates to 60 cents per pound per item.

3

Third-Party Coverage – For some people, coverage offered by moving companies is just not enough. If you feel that you need additional coverage aside from what your movers offer, then you might consider using Third-Party Insurance Providers. Unfortunately, moving companies are not allowed to offer insurance services. So that means having your items insured by a provider separate from your movers. This will mean additional costs and therefore a higher moving budget.

Claim validation

Of course, not all damages are settled. Each claim has to be investigated and evaluated to ensure the validity of the claim. Different moving companies in Edmonton have different policies that govern the validation of a claim. Below are the main considerations for a claim at Last Stop Moving

Your damages will only be processed once it is confirmed and verified that said damages were caused by your movers. Note that this does not include items packed by the client.Your damages can only be processed if said damages were immediately reported to the crew foreman or directly calling us. You should also immediately record such damages, either by video or images. You must then fill out and submit the Damage Claim Form above. We will only process claims that are reported within a Two-Week Period of your move. Any claims beyond this timeline will be forfeited. We will not process claims for damages or losses incurred because of the client's contradiction to the movers’ instructions. This applies in instances where you as the client, neglect to follow your movers' advice on matters of moving such as packing or transportation.
